We are engaged in a battle and the enemy wants to steal your faith. He wants to steal your blessings and joy, your family and destiny–everything he can. But you have to fight the good fight of faith.
Paul compares the fight of faith to a race. He encourages us to fight the good fight, finish the race, keep the faith.
When I speak to groups on this, I have a large banner I place on the stage behind me that says FINISH LINE. I like people to have a visual picture of making it to the finish line.
Think about your race. Think about everything discouraging you right now, every heartbreak, loss, broken dream, unrealized hope. What is keeping you from keeping on, what is threatening to steal your joy, your faith today? How are you fighting it? Have you tried prayer? Are you reading God’s Word? Are you still tempted to give in, to give up?
Now imagine that big finish line right in front of you.
Can you see your answer on the other side? Can you see your dream fulfilled? It’s just ahead of you. This is not the time to give up. Maybe there are things going on behind you, or off to the side of you. Maybe you can’t see because everything is just a little foggy when you’re in a storm, or the wind is blowing to hard in your face. But can’t you just feel how close you are to the finish line? What if, in obedience, in the fight for your life, you took one step? What if, not knowing anything God is up to around you or off to the sides or even ahead, you stepped out once more? Take that step right now. Don’t dare give up. Because you are going to make it to the finish line in victory!
