You may not feel God is listening at times. But he hears you. Lovingly, he is working out things for your benefit. Still, it is true to our nature to want to see that and feel that.
As a young lady with a broken heart, I remembered the words of God, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalms 147:3). I was that person who needed a real touch from a real God. I went with my good friend, Kathleen, on a short trip to New Orleans, to get away and pray. I petitioned God, “Help me. I want to go on with my life, but I can’t go on with this heavy burden of rejection and hurt inside. Heal my broken heart.”
Kathleen prayed for me and with me too.
Nothing happened that night as we lay on the floor, praying in a New Orleans hotel room. There were no thunderbolts. There was no sudden change. I faced another dark night.
But when Kathleen and I got up the next morning to do a little sightseeing, I will never forget what happened. As we walked down the street, I felt a certain relief, as if God reached down and lifted a great burden off of me. The heaviness and oppression lifted. It was real and amazing.
That day God healed my broken heart.
The commercial says, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” I like to say, “What happened in New Orleans stayed in New Orleans” because I left my broken heart there.
The thing is: God hears and God heals. He will work things in his time. Keep talking to him, believing, and he will show you that he is an anchor to be trusted and with him is the relationship of your dreams.
