Fear is aggressive, so you have to deal with it aggressively. Fear takes no prisoners. It will bear down on you to destroy you. Period. With such an enemy, you have to fight in the same way. Once you recognize anxious thoughts, feelings of being scared, immediately deal with them. Don’t even open the door to it. Resist each and every thought of fear that comes to your mind.
Does that sound simplistic?
Maybe. But it’s more simplistic than fear’s tactic of entering your mind and taking up residence, refusing to leave…until you tell it to do so. Where we get into trouble is when we begin to entertain thoughts of fear. We allow them to niggle at us. We start dwelling on them, instead of resisting them.
You have to choose not to give into fearful thoughts. The Bible shows us that we must be aggressive in pulling down and casting down any negative thoughts and strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). If someone handed you a snake, would you simply take it? No, you would absolutely refuse it!
You have to be just as adamant with fear. Refuse fear and you will experience God’s perfect peace.
